London By Chance: THE RULES

TASK// Leaving all travel-related decisions completely to chance, and resisting the urge to premeditate the outcome of the journey, travel across London from a given starting point, within a time limit.

PURPOSE// With most journeys, we usually plan our route in advance: we have a definite destination to reach in the quickest time. What if there were no planned destination, no need to be anywhere by a certain time? What if all navigational decisions were out of our hands? Where would that journey take us, what could we learn, what would we see along the way, who would we meet, what would happen?

RULES
1) Travel must be within the boundaries of the London A-Z.
2) Travel is restricted to the area covered by an All Zones Travelcard.
3) Modes of transport to take at each decision point randomly selected using cards.
4) Underground/overground trains and buses: the number of stops to travel to be determined by the roll of a dice.
5) Direction, such as Eastbound or Westbound, which way to walk etc. to be decided by flipping a coin.
6) Underground trains: underground line chosen using cards.
7) Overground trains: platform determined by the roll of a dice. First train taken.
8) Buses: First bus to arrive at the first bus stop reached once 'Bus' card selected.
